Future of the game post the WC

Cricket has and will continue to change a lot in the near future.

Most of the direction I agree with, some well I don't.

The first best thing to happen is the distinction b/w the three formats. ODIs and T20s were often clubbed together, but this WC has gone on to show how teams now treat both so differently.

ODIs - The good - Super league is an interesting concept next year. Love the new approach to the game. Like Harsha Bhogle said when everyone was expecting the WC to be a longer T20, 400/500 runs barrier broken, instead we got a shorter test in most games. Slower built up innings on competitive pitches were the most enjoyable. Learn something BCCI and CA.

The not so good - 10 team WC was fun to watch, but I still don't buy the idea associate teams shouldn't get a chance on the biggest stage.

T20s - The good - Women's t20 in Olympics/CWG, hopefully men's to follow. For associate nations, t20 is by far the best option to make a name. And attract audiences. T20 domestic leagues have cropped up everywhere. Nice filler on the schedule.

The not so good - I don't get Champions Trophy replaced by t20 world cup when you already have a t20 WC in the 4 year cycle. This is the least prestigious format of the three, everyone likes a bit of fun, but driving it too much is meh.

Tests - Good - Love the concept of the test championship. Promotes the longer format of the game. Love it.

The not so good - The major issue is still allowing teams to cherry pick who they wanna play. The games that work are when two competitive teams play their heart out. India in England or Australia in India. People watch that. What doesn't work is India drubbing WI/SL each year. That's just boring to watch. And this is where test cricket is hurt. A lot of mehs amidst a few good games.

The second is of course the concept of a final. If you set one up, and decide a draw is league toppers win, if makes for a horrendous final as Sheffield Shield fans will tell you. Either don't have one, or decide it during the game, first innings lead, points system for wickets/runs in first 100 overs, etc

Overall, a lot to be excited about. A massive plus is the push with women's cricket too, with another standalone t20 in Feb.

Just have more regulations on t20s maybe. And schedule these super leagues/test leagues without asking cricket boards who they wanna play. That's dumb.
