I completely understand why Jason Roy asked for(or was just told they were giving him) a night watchman at the end of the day.

Saw Roy copping a lot of shit, being called a coward and all sorts in the match thread but I actually get it.

No matter what he’s done or how many times he’s played white ball cricket for England, this is still a debut, in a role he’s never done before and gotten out early in the first innings, any human being would be feeling nervous and even just the idea of the being humiliatingly out twice on the first day of your debut would probably cause more nerves, could be enough to ruin his chance before it’s really started.

Alternatively, maybe even he realises opening is not where he should be and wants to stake a claim at the no.3 spot where he probably should’ve been considered in the first place...
