Hey fellas,
It is the first match of the season. I played a couple of matches last season after about 8 years out (I'm 23). I surprised myself and was able to pick up wickets with my deceptively quick bowling (top 2 quickest at the club). I made a few runs in my last dig so I am very keen for the upcoming season.
I'm very anxious about the match. I have attended the pre-season training sessions and I have bowled well. I usually bowl well in net sessions. I am nervous because while I have control of my bowling in the nets, there were instances last season where I sprayed the ball due to being unable to control swing. I would appreciate any advice about how to go about bowling a tight over. I know my pace is good and I can bowl very tight in the nets. I'm just worried I will spray it down leg or be a bit too wide of off and get cut/edged to third man. My main concern with the accuracy is that the ball will be fairly new compared to the balls at training and I am at a loss to try and control the swing. I am reluctant to stick to bowling cross-seamers every ball as the bounce is a bit too low.
As far as batting is concerned I'm not too nervous.
I should be studying now but I am very anxious about how I will bowl and how many overs I will get to bowl. Please share techniques and tips you have used to help you keep your mind off and focus on studying as well as any tips and techniques to cope with the fear of spraying the ball. Also I wouldn't mind learning how the fellow bowlers consistently pitch the ball to hit the top of off at good pace on match day. What's your routine when you give your hat to the umpire and you begin bowling those 6 balls?
Thanks for your help.
