Okay this isn't the usual rant on DRS. Yes, the bit I have an issue with is the umpires call. No, I do not think it should be removed (quite the opposite in fact).
Right now, the ball tracker displays umpires call when the predicted trajectory is marginally clipping the stumps, or is marginally in line. The decision then remains what was given on field. This is fine. You are essentially recognising that you have a certain error in you model and giving the benefit of doubt to the on field umpire.
However, considering you have a slight error in the projected trajectory, this would mean that for balls 'just' missing the wickets, the ball could be HITTING within your errors. Basically, a decision can be overturned if a ball is missing the wickets by 1mm, but not overturned if it is hitting only 1mm of the wickets.
This(like most of cricket) is a bit biased towards the batsman. Now, obviously having a replay that shows the ball missing the stumps, then having a out decision upheld would make for terrible and frankly confusing television. Instead, I would recommend a few mm 'red zone' outside the stumps. If the ball is passing through that area the result should be NOT OUT, but the bowling team should regain the review (like umpire's call)
