I was just thinking about my earlier days of watching cricket as a kid and thinking about how I didn't understand or know a lot of things at that point. I was around 7 when I started watching cricket so there was a lot I didn't get but I still enjoyed the game.
One of the things was the fact that the ends get switched after every over. It took me more than an year of watching cricket before I realised (or rather someone told me) that it happens. In my defense, they never really show ends being switched on TV ( since there are ad breaks) and no one switches ends in gully cricket.
Also, I thought caught & bowled was "cotton bowled". Never understood what that had to do with cotton for the first few months of watching cricket. It only became clear when I first noticed it on the scorecard. Guess I wasn't really the brightest bulb around at the time.
Was there any simple thing about cricket that you guys completely misunderstood when you started watching cricket?
