Dream11 Explained for newbies

So hey I was just searching for some advanced statistics that could help me build a fantasy team in Dream11. Since there are a lot of very advanced stats being discussed here I thought I will search the term Dream11 in the subreddit. And what I saw was there was a big chunk of people who are not very familiar with the app or how it works. (Hey if you are a pro gambler who bets tons on money on Dream11 you can skip this post) What's Dream11? It's a daily fantasy sports gaming platform. You create a fantasy team and based on the performance of the players you have you win or lose. It's based off on a single game - not like fantasy premier league that runs throughout the season. And you can place money on it.

Is it gambling? Depends on how you define the term gambling, in my opinion it is.

Is it scam? Nope. It's pretty legit. In the US Fanduel and DraftKings are the major fantasy sports platforms. Similar business model. It works they don't need to scam you to make money, they take around 16% of your entry fees. That's enough. (There could be players who are cheating in other ways tough, will get to it later)

Just because you know cricket you can't win shit on Dream11. I'm serious. It helps if you know how the prize money is distributed, the number of people you are playing against etc.

There are two types of games within Dream11 - tournament and cash games. (grand league and small league). In tournaments 100K to 500K teams play. You need to put in about INR 26 to 49 to play. The top ranked team will take home INR 1 million. And you can see crazy lucky teams winning it. Your first reaction no way this dude put in that team. Most of often they did. Why? If you play the tournament, you need to win first prize once in an year to be profitable. So you don't play Kohli's and Steve Smith's in all your team's. Everyone will have them - you play players who are unlikely to be in other people's teams. So you take huge risks - if everyone is captaining Kohli you captain someone else that's not popular. (Doesn't mean you avoid good players, a mix of good plus overlooked players. In Dream11 you can see how many people are picking the players)

Cash games or small league are H2H that is one on one, 4 players one person wins etc. Less players - you need to win them more often so less risky picks.

That's kind of the basic idea of the game. And there are numerous sharks or pro players. So be careful. And scam - players could collude. Create unique teams and cover many permutations and combinations in the tournament. Hard to keep a check on.

You can play without money as well for fun.

(If you are a pro player and would like to help out this newbie what are some advanced stats I can look up for in cricket. I play soccer okay. So I can help you with that.)
