Liam Plunkett should still be playing for England.

This may seem reactionary due to tonight’s loss but I’ve thought this since he got dropped and tonight’s game only amplifies the fact.

We have got very little in the middle overs, Rashid is excellent and with the full strength team we’ve got Mark Wood who does his job well but Plunkett has possibly been one of the best middle over seam bowlers in the world over the last 3-4 years. He takes wickets at crucial times, he breaks partnerships, he rarely gets carted...just look at the World Cup final for an example.

Not selecting him based on age and the next World Cup being 3 years away isn’t a valid excuse, maybe he doesn’t make that World Cup but right now, he could still be a match winner. Tonight we had nothing in the middle, Mo’s out of form, Willey(as much as I love him) isn’t a middle over bowler, Curran still needs work.

What’s the harm in Plunkett being there, with the new league, every game matters, sure we should walk into the World Cup anyway but we should be looking to win every game, he can still do the job and his experience could be invaluable to someone like Curran who they clearly see as the next in line to that role. I just don’t get it.
