Can some explain cricket to me?

Young American guy here with an Indian uncle who constantly raves about the game but just can’t explain it well for the life of him. It seems interesting and the way he describes it makes it seem like the best thing since sliced bread so if someone could explain the rules (the very basic rules) that’d be great haha
