If you’ve never really known the full story of Kerry Packer and World Series Cricket, is like to massively recommend the BT Sport film ‘Kerry Packer: the man who changed cricket’

So I think I, like most people, knew that World Series cricket was a huge thing for the sport but I never quite realised just how much it brought to the game.

The white ball, coloured clothing and day/night games is only the start. It shaped the way cricket is still presented today with the camera angles and stump mics, they brought in helmets simply because Packer didn’t want these players he was playing huge money for being injured and unable to play, they invented drop in pitches because they only had 9 months to create 4 test match standard wickets from absolute scratch and so much more.

If you can find the documentary, give it a watch. It’s completely mental too me that so much of what we see in cricket today came from one mans dream and a brilliant team of people he employed to make it a reality. From players, tv producers and broadcasters to the pitch curators and ball manufacturers, he really did bring the best of absolutely every field and completely changed the landscape of cricket forever.

Edit: there’s a typo in my title. God damn it.
