If there was no auction system, he could have taken a small paycut at KKR, or gone to a different franchise for a higher wage than 2 crore where he did not have to compete with someone like QdK. Another example is DK with MI in 2013, he had an incredible season of over 500 runs, he even started playing for India. MI could have just given him a wage increase within the wage cap in 2014, keeping both the player and franchise happy. But because of auction dynamics, he was left in the wilderness being moved around every year, affecting his growth and performance, I understand the enormity of the effect is debatable.
