Watching the last two games where Australia batted well this is glaringly obvious. Whilst as a fan I can't say I didn't enjoy the Aussies belting India for two massive scores it doesn't make for the best cricket when bat continually dominates the ball.
Batters have had many advantages this decade (bigger bats, smaller boundaries etc) and the two new ball rule makes it easier for them. A 25 over ball is still very hard and good for batting and they barely swing at all so there's no real advantage for the bowlers at the start of an innings.
Going back to one ball would mean that the ball would rough up more and get significantly softer as the innings wears on which makes it harder for batters. It also allows for reverse swing to become a factor late in the innings which I believe was a great feature of the game in the 2000's with bowlers like Vaas and Lee. This means that batter have to work harder at the death and gives bowlers a chance to take wickets and pull the score back.
Obviously there was the issue with discolouration of the ball which makes it hard to see but with the technology developed in the last 5 years with the pink ball, surely some of that could help fix this issue.
