So I know the Lanka Premier League has flown under the radar but I thought I'd just draw this sub's attention to the tournament and in particular the Jaffna Stallions Team.
While all games will be played in Hambantota in the South, it's still a pretty big deal to have a team representing Jaffna. For those who arent aware, the Northern Province, and Jaffna in particular, was heaviest hit by the Civil War and was essentially cut off from the rest of the Island for a long time.
Even more importantly, there are 4 Tamil players from the North in the squad.
Vijayakanth Viyaskanth - Legspinner - Has represented SL U-19
Kanagarathinam Kabilraj - Right Arm Fast Bowler - (nicknamed the Killinochchi Express apparently)
Theivendiram Dinoshan - Right arm Fast Bowler/Right Hand Bat
Sebastianpillai Vijeyaraj - Right arm Fast Bowler
While im not saying that everyones problems (racial, discirmination etc.) go away , I am a strong believer in sports being a great method of bringing together communities. Im hoping that only these players do well in this tournament and will one day represent Sri Lanka, I hope that it would also help bring all communities from the North and the South together. Especially given how they have (at times) viewed each other with suspicion.
Full Squad can be found here: https://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/content/squad/1239486.html
Their first game is tonight vs the Galle Gladiators.
