Hi everyone. Few things to get through in this post so it's a bit of a long one...
State of the sub posts
This is the first of a semi-regular 'state of the subreddit' style post we'll be making to talk about subreddit news and ideas. Many other subs already have this, and now we will too.
New Rule: No toxic fan behaviour
No low-effort hate directed at players, clubs, fans, associated people, or formats of the game. Negative opinions are fine, but be respectful when expressing it
This is a new rule to respond to a number of requests we've seen in recent times to be a bit firmer on toxic fan comments. Similar rules have recently been introduced in a few other sports subs. Currently rule 1 bans abuse of other redditors, but people have had free reign to spew low-effort hate about players/umpires/administrators and the like. Without intending to single anyone out, here are some examples of this:
Mumbai has so many douchebags in their team (pandyas amount to 5 douchebags) and so many fat doughy rich motabhais sitting on the sidelines.
Krunal's face is the most punchable face ever
Krunal you piece of shit
KRUNAL IS A ASSHOLE. NO ONE WILL DISAGREE TBH
Krunal is grade a cunt
Shit bowler. Absolute nobody
Edit to clarify: above are actual comments copied out of a recent IPL match thread (Krunal must've done something wrong at the time)
These sort of shit-tier abusive/hate comments add nothing to the sub and are no longer going to be allowed here. Negative opinions, banter, jokes, venting anger or frustration and the like are absolutely still allowed. We're not banning negative thoughts, we just want to cut out some of the low-effort toxic dribble that is already super common in other forums like facebook or instagram comments.
Reddit redesign
The infamous reddit redesign seems to be picking up steam. Last month around 23% of unique visitors to this sub used new reddit, 40% used mobile web, 30% used reddit apps, and only 8% used old reddit. With mobile web and a lot of apps now based on new reddit by default there seems to a majority of people using the redesign these days.
As a result, we're going to start focusing more on new reddit features and less on updating the old reddit subreddit CSS styles. Some ideas we're thinking about (feel free to comment):
-
Custom awards for posts/comments. Perhaps umpiring signals, players, milestones like 50/100, 5/10 wickets etc
-
Post flair. We don't have this now but can be useful for filtering post types e.g. match threads, discussion, stats, news, highlights, images, humour etc. Either optional or mandatory, but probably works better if mandatory
-
Style tweaks. Most of these are subtle but we'll likely start introducing some more e.g. post guidelines help messages, welcome messages to new subscribers, appearance changes etc
Reddit predictions
This feature was trialled by the admins in this sub during the IPL, and future plans for it are unknown, including regarding continuing it over the southern hemisphere summer. We'll let you know more about this soon
