Got into a chat with a mate about this and thought I’d sample some opinions here. As the title suggests you are tasked with assembling a current World XI to score 500 runs in a 50 over innings.
The team you pick must be able to function as a normal ODI team, meaning there has to be a player in there who can keep and at least 5 players capable of bowling 10 vaguely competent overs, after all there’s no point in scoring 500 if you don’t have the bowlers to defend it. Just to make it more interesting, your team will be playing against the country that you support, so you can’t pick anyone from your home nation, foreign players only. The match will take place at a ground of your choosing (as long as it hosts internationals), your team will obviously bat first and be told they have to score 500, so will play accordingly.
To start things off, here’s my effort. Playing at Trent Bridge:
Quinton de Kock (wk)
Rohit Sharma
Virat Kohli (c)
Babar Azam
Faf du Plessis
Nicholas Pooran
Glenn Maxwell
Andre Russell
Chris Morris
Tim Southee
Mitchell Starc
