This was harder than I thought. 7 players pick themselves IMO. Four contentious choices were:
Rohit Sharma - I feel he has done enough to nudge ahead of Ganguly and Sehwag since opening the batting from 2013. Sehwag had a great strike rate but wasn’t as reliable, and Ganguly’s SR was quite low for 2000s and was a bit of liability in the field.
Azharuddin - He was preferred to the likes of Dravid, because of his better strike rate (74) at healthy average of 37, even after playing in 80s and 90s. Also a terrific fielder.
Ravindra Jadeja - With 4 good bowling options with Tendulkar and Yuvraj as backup, Jadeja is a great utility player at 8 with his accurate bowling, batting and fielding.
Kumble - Most wickets by any Indian spinner, and the likes of Kulcha have long way to go even if they have better averages now. Also with Jadeja, Yuvraj as finger spinners, the team needed a wrist spinner.
