I think MS Dhoni has played his last match for India and he might get a farewell series at home if the BCCI want to give him one.
He is nearly 40 , and he has been a tremendous servant for Indian Cricket. I do not think he will be in the team plans for the 2023 World Cup in India.
Who the selectors choose as a long term replacement for MS Dhoni because the man they choose will be under the microscope because of the legacy left behind MS Dhoni ( MS has won every trophy in limited overs as a captain cricket and was an excellent keeper for India) .
I also think that KL Rahul is a short term fix for the wicket keeper role (It will be similar to Rahul Dravid's role in the 2003 World Cup before Dhoni came along). Another criterion for selecting India's long term wicket keeper replacement is that he would have to finish games for the country because the wicket keeper will be batting at 5/6/7 and should have the gears to adapt to situations whether the team is 12/3 or 300/3.
There are 3 players who can be potential successors to MS Dhoni
1) Rishab Pant : He has the best resume out of the 3 wicket keepers
He has scored test match hundreds in England and Australia
He is a very attacking and free flowing batsman
His keeping not up to the mark and he has dropped catches
2) Sanju Samson : He has not made the most of his opportunities when he has played for the country
He got out cheaply against New Zealand and Sri Lanka in the T20
He has played some brilliant innings for Rajasthan Royals which tells that he has the talent but is not consistent enough
3) Ishan Kishan : He captained the Under 19 team to the final
He is also an attacking batsman for team / done reasonably well for Mumbai Indians
Attacks the spinners. He also plays for the same state as MS Dhoni
Ishan Kishan has not made his debut for the India Team
Note: Saha and Karthik will not be in the Indian Team for the 2023 World Cup. I hope we select a wicket keeper for the long term and persist with him and we don't chop and change like we did for the middle order and we went with an unsettled middle order in the 2019 World Cup
